Pictures of Loks on My Layout as of June 2024

Pictures of loks on my layout as of July 2024. As I get new loks I will rotate pictures of them with some of these loks. There will be fewer pictures in subsequent months since I don't anticipate a large number of new loks. But I will rotate some of my existing collection with these loks.

A view of some of my loks and consists on the three levels. As you face the layout, this is a view of the right dog bone.

This is a wide view of my layout as of July 2024. It shows parts of all three levels. Note the addition of two spurs added to the main/middle level and one spur on the lower level.
In this video you will see several SBB cargo loks, three Dutch communter trains including a duplex or two level train, three ICEs, and on the middle level you will see two TGVs, and one is a duplex.

The DB AG 290 163-5 switch lok with the turning train dirver. In Europe the person driving the train is called a train driver rather than an engineer which is what we call them in the US. Watch carefully as this lok changes direction. The train driver turns accordingly.

The Maintenance of the Way crew laying new track, ties, and ballast. A ballast tamping unit waits to tamp down the ballast.

Marklin 39935 - Unimat 09-4x4/4S E3 Ballast Tamping Machine. As the unit travels slowly, the center section moves back and forth while pistons go up and down simulating the tamping of ballast. Be sure to view the video of the tamping machinge in action, below.

The Unimat 09-4x4 42 E3 ballast tamping machine in action. Note the frame moving back and forth while the tamping action takes place. Also note how realistically slow the unit moves.

Green livery for an ESU Br 151. This lok, as most ESU loks, squeals as it rounds a curve, makes a turnout crossing noise, and flashes sparks around the boogies as it comes to a halt.

The Marklin 39720 1707 Dutch State Railways (NS) class 1700 general-purpose electric locomotive pulling a passenger consist of duplex cars.

Watch carefully as this consist of Netherland duplex cars pass. These cars have been retrofitted by Robert Frowenfeld with an ESU decoder that allows me to turn on the top and bottom levels lights in all the cars; in each car one at a time; all the top or bottom lights in all cars or individually in each car. Watch the lights in each car go on. Notice the blinking effect.

Marklin 37295 Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) Am 840 pulling a long consist of COOP refrigerator cars.

ESU 31305 Cargo diesel shunter G1000 Am 842 pulling a consist of brightly colored SBB freight cars (see next picture).

Some of the "brightly colored" SBB Cargo cars.

ESU 31532 electric Cargo Ae 5/5 pulling a consist of SBB cargo container cars.

The HAG S-28573-31 Re 465 BLS Simplon Ae6/8. I don't remember what I paid for this lok but a European dealer is selling a used lok for more than $1,000. I certainly did not pay that much when I purchased it.

The SBB V 200 diesel pulling a consist of double level coaches. This is an ESU lok with many functions including squealing sounds as it rounds curves and a realistic sound when it crosses a turnout. I really like the ESU loks on my layout. The CS3+ allows me to run them using the DCC protcol which has more functions than you get if you run the lok as mfx+ which you can also do.

The ESU SBB AE6/6 Cargo electric lok, one of three SBB cargo loks on my layout. It is pulling a consist of Cargo container cars on the upper level. Like many ESU loks, note the squealing sounds as it rounds a curve. Also, note the raising and lowering of the pantograph just before it starts. I don't keep the pantos upper because I don't have caternary and the panto will hit the catenary post extended arms.

The Duplex TGV.

The ICE 4 with environmental livery.

A commuter consist in Coke livery pulled by a Marklin 39290 Class 249 Dual Power diesel/electric lok. Sorry about the clutter seen in the bottom right of your screen. The clutter includes a bottle of ESU smoke fluid.

The ESU BR 151 pulling a consist of coal cars. As noted above, the lok's boogies flash tiny lights that simulate sparks when it brakes, it sparks when you turn on the main switch; makes squealing noises when going around curves and makes a switching noise as it goes over turnouts.

This is a really great lok to see and hear on the layout. The whistle is distinct and powerful. The coaches that it is hauling are a perfect consist for this lok.

In the foreground is a Cargo switcher and in the background is the Looney Tunes lok which plays audio clips from Looney tunes characters such as Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, and others.

The goliath crane.

The steam shovel. Really great action.
